OK cybergeeks. Here's my question: Is there a simple way to set up a webcam outside where I can record activity around my drive/sheds/carts/etc. (and perhaps have it motion detected)? Flurry of thefts in our neighborhood lately and I've got some pretty neat stuff outside. Although most of them are chained up, a thief could easily circumvent my attempts.

I seem to remember seeing a program that used a standard webcam as a motion detected surveillance camera, but don't remember the name of the program.

for starters you might have a look at this one. It's free.

Better yet, connect a zapper to your shed door handle.

LOL. Think of this scenario: Hook up the YAWCAM to start recording upon motion detection. Have it aimed at my "stuff". Along with that, hook up the "zapper" to the shed door. Then, when the scumbag tries to get to my stuff, the camera is activated and records the creep jerking around and pissing himself. Could set up an alarm in the house to alert me to go out and pick up the body. Great sport.

Many web cams come with software that does exactly that, problem is. USB has a line length of only 6 feet so you would have to put your computer outside. kinda defeats the purpose
Those X10 cameras I have heard are great for this stuff cause they're wireless.

I like the electric fence idea

Mom says I can't do that. She wants me to make nice. Besides, in my declining years, I have a tendency to forget things and would probably be the one on camera getting my pants dirty.
